Washington Township - Where is it?
The Washington Township was formed in 1853 around the same time as Alameda County was formed from portions of Contra Costa County and Santa Clara County. Snippet from 1878 Alameda County Map David Rumsey |
The town identities still hold. Most everyone in Niles will say they are from Niles. People who live in the Warm Springs district of Fremont will say "Warm Springs". Centerville has a similar identity. Irvingtonians are confused by their borders, some saying they are in Mission San Jose. We do have Mission Creek running through our landscape after all.
It has only been since 1956 that we are Fremont.
