Peaches from China
From Dr. Fisher books on towns of the Washington Township. This was from the Vallejo Mills pages IMG_5411 |
The history of peaches is quite an interesting one. The peach is thought to have originated in China. Wikipedia has a summary on its history.
But where did James Shinn get a Chinese peach in 1897? He imported plants from Japan for the Shinn's Nurseries. Did he import from China, too? Or did one of his Chinese workers bring this from China?
It would be interesting to look through the Board of Trade publications for more information.
Here are some things of interest:
- "A Big Peach Season" Pacific Rural Press, Volume 52, Number 10, 5 September 1896. A big one pound 7 ounces peach sent to the Board of Trade.
